DaCapo Music was founded in Jan 1992, the brainchild of owner Steve Middleton. It began as a small, flea market, operation which Steve worked part-time after he finished his day job teaching music in the public school. As the business grew he gave up his day job and moved to a downtown store front and later to a building purchased for that purpose. There was a break in operations from 2000-2003 while Steve pursued other business interests but early in 2003 he began searching for a store to purchase. Not finding the right opportunity he broadened his search to include "the right place" to open a new store. After discussing his dream with industry contacts he decided on Ardmore, OK. Once that decision was made he rented a building at 601 A St. SE and things began moving quickly. Steve arrived in Ardmore August 1, 2003, unpacked the moving van and the next day began ordering fixtures, painting, and deciding which lines he would carry. Two years later his competitor, an old line store with deep ties in the Ardmore market, went out of business and he secured the 1026 West Broadway facility which has housed a music store for nearly 40 years. Since then the store has flourished and again moved, in late 2007, to 1020 West Broadway a larger facility.
DaCapo Music, DCMUS.com on-line, is currently an authorized dealer for the most popular guitar lines available including Martin, Taylor, Guild, Alvarez, Fender, Ovation, Takamine, Jackson, Blueridge, & PRS. Steve wears many hats in the business but his primary responsibility is on-site manager so it's unusual to visit the store and not see "the bald guy" stocking shelves, answering the phone, or helping a customer select their next guitar. Many customers consider Steve the "go to" guy for all their musical needs.
